What it Shwas Suzi McDonough
I'm Suzi. I live in suburban Mpls/St. Paul, and spend my days working in graphic design and sales. I suddenly find myself caught up in the First Day to 5K, a podcast running program that should have me ready to run a 5K race in October or so. My fridge is filled with organic stuff these days, because I've just started learning about what sorts of dastardly things are done to our food in this country, and it's pretty horrifying. My awesome family includes The First Baseman and a couple of daughters, Rose and Kelly, who are just about grownups. I love the ocean like it's my religion and try to visit it a couple times per year. The girls and I are on a constant quest to change The First Baseman's mind about stuff, like getting a dog and letting me use his name when I blog about him. I see as much theater as I possibly can, and I am the last remaining Minnesota Timberwolves fan. Look for me in section 126.

Four Foods on Friday: Red, White, and Blue Election Week Edition

Freaky, man. I'm writing this post early, before election day. By the time this is posted, we'll know who the next president is going to be. I'll either be celebrating or resigning myself to making the best of not getting my way. In any event, if you want to see what's on everybody's plate this week, pop over to Fun, Crafts, and Recipes. And hey, why not play along, huh?

#1. Name a food you like that uses a red sauce or anything red in it.

We use a lot of red stuff around here, because I can my own salsa and this year, I made my own spaghetti sauce. We all like the chili I make, and it could not possibly be any easier. GREAT for lazy days when I want to make people think I've been simmering something on the stove all day. Here's what you do: brown a pound of ground meat of some sort (I use chicken from the farmer's market). Stir in a can of baked beans (I use the organic ones, only because they're the only ones I can find that do not contain high fructose corn syrup). Add a pint or two of salsa. Heat it up. Serve it with saltines. Yum. Easy, fast, and yum. I'm sure it would work with salsa from the grocery store, too.

#2. Name a food you like with whipped cream in it or on it.

The only time I ever make whipped cream is this time of year, when I make pumpkin pie. I don't really see the point of pumpkin pie without it, do you?

#3. Name a food you like with blueberry in it.

Oh, man. Blueberries are in my top 5 favorite foods. When they're in season, I normally eat a pint of them a day. At least. I'll eat them for breakfast, and then snack on them throughout the day. Right out of the package. Know what's a great treat, though? Pour some blueberries in a bowl, sprinkle on a little sugar, and cover them with milk. Or half-and-half. Or if it's your birthday, cream. Sadly, my birthday does not happen to be during blueberry season.

#4. Share a recipe for pasta or dessert or a beverage.

Wow. That's pretty broad! Okay, I'll tell you Kelly's recipe for creamy tomato pasta. It's as simple as melting a tablespoon of marscapone into some spaghetti sauce, and tossing it with hot noodles. She tops the whole thing with fresh grated parmesan, and oh, my. Unbelievable.
